After the race not happening last year due to the London Landmarks half marathon taking its place as the warm up run to the London Marathon. I was pleased to see Silverstone had decided toput the race on themselves with a new date in November. This is my favourite race to run and whilst the weather can be a little unpredictable it was a nice fine day for running today.
For the first time there were multiple distances on offer a 5k, 10k and the usual Half we all started together and split at various points along the way, the half marathon route takes in most of the circuit and inner and outer roads before doubling back on yourself along the main pit straight and back along hanger straight to finally finish on copse corner and the old pit lane.
It’s a great race as its traffic free, reasonably flat and a great running surface for the most part. Having not been enjoying running much over the last couple of months I was pleased that I enjoyed every minute of today and also managed to get a visit into the Silverstone Experience after the race.
I finished in a much faster time than I expected 2 hours 37 minutes 31 seconds, whilst 20 minutes off my PB it’s the fast half marathon I’ve run in over 2 years so I clearly enjoyed being back on the track!
