Gold Hill 10K - Kay Pulsford

Gold Hill 10K - 11th October 2014

OMG THERE WERE HILLS!!!!

Not just your ordinary common or garden hills, and we run lots of hills, but stonking great big, worse than the Sydling10K HILLS!  Of course I knew this and was prepared for the iconic Gold (Hovis) Hill but this was not the worst one by any stretch of the imagination.

Bit of a cold morning for the early risers but as the starts wasn’t till 11 o’clock it had warmed up a bit as we walked over to the start.  Met Hilary & James beforehand as well as the usual suspects from Yeovil & Langport and the odd Chard runner.

Half a lap of the school playing field to start then off downhill, but easy does it, knowing what was to come shortly after.  Gave Gold Hill a good shot determined to run as much of it as I possibly could and was chuffed that I managed probably 95% of it J  Small bit of the town centre then off out into the countryside and thankfully downhill for a while followed by a little bit of uphill, then the best bit a very very long downhill section.

Unfortunately from here to the finish it was up, up and up apart from a small 600 m downhill bit.  The last 2.5K were well think you know UP!  You may well ask why the ..…. did you do it?  Well it was there it has to be done, doesn’t it?  Think I enjoyed it but don’t think I will be rushing to do it again next year even if Adrian does fancy it.  But then again…….

Extremely well marked course with arrows in the road all the way not just at junctions, marshals at every junction clapping and encouraging you, great crowd at the top of Gold Hill, two water stations and a unique medal at the end.  Very well organised race, well done to Gillingham Trotters.
