Other than a couple of Parkruns this was my first running not only of Yeovilton but a 5k race. 5ks have sort of become occasional recovery runs and not really a distance I would run even in training but thought ‘bit of a gap there on my PB list, lets go and get a time on the board, any old time will do just get round’. There were over 150 entries for this running of the Summer Series and twelve CRC runners entered. Weather was cool compared to what we had in the previous weeks with a bit of a breeze which suited me down to the ground. Flat route from outside RNAS Yeovilton round to Podimore and back.
Stick with Tracy was my plan but she had her speedy pants on and was after attacking her PB so I let her go but luckily never lost sight of her. Knew I was running much quicker than I had planned so tucked in behind a group of Yeovil runners for the first half till I decided they too were running too quick for me. Second half I eventually came alongside Tracy, still felt ok despite the pace but seemed I had more umph left than she did so just kept going.
Was absolutely amazed to come round the corner to the see the finish and the clock saying 29 mins something, thought ‘gotta go for this’! Had run 5k on the Monday just to see and was happy with a 31.48 but to come over the finish line in 29.45 absolutely amazing. Stunned is not the word :)
Good friendly, flat, fast evening run for everyone.
Well done to everyone especially those that managed Championship PBs :)
Lots of pictures uploaded to the website for your amusement :)
